30/05/2008

General Ahmad bin Hazim, Dubai Courts Director told UAE daily Emirates Business 24/7, that the property court will take a seat for the first time on Monday and is likely to speed up the instance between hearings from one month presently to just a week.

Bin Hazim said the court would handle all types of property cases that are currently deal with by Dubai Courts."Once the court starts functioning it will develop in stages," he said. "It will start with all the traditional property cases, which are currently being handled by Dubai Courts."

Bin Hazim said the court would be responsible for defining new procedures and property laws."The Property Court will have its own premises and budget. We have three possible locations but the final site has not yet been decided," he said.

The court is one of six specialist courts set up earlier this month under a decree by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, also UAE vice president and prime minister.

Disputes between landlords and tenants have been on the increase in Dubai due to the high demand for rental accommodation coupled with a severe shortage of supply, which has led to huge increases in the cost of accommodation over the last few years.
