Dubai Shopping Festival 2008 Calendar Of Events Revealed

"One world, One family, One Festival", the popular logo of DSF 2008 and its calendar of events that will take place on the 24th January to 24th February 2008. Dubai Shopping Festival Office, has newly changed to an independent government body.

Publicized calendar comprises of over 100 colorful and exciting events that complements the marketing scheme for this year's edition "The Fifth Season", whereby DSF will be an exclusive period of festivities exemplify by countless shopping opportunities, with its amazing entertainment events, and unbelievable prizes for shoppers.

Laila Suhail, Chief Strategy Officer at DSF Office explained that the DSF office is implementing a new strategy for the international event. The new strategy emphasizes shopping as a core focus in the coming editions of DSF. Additionally, the festival will play a significant role in promoting new entertainment projects and establishing a vibrant entertainment industry in Dubai. A key highlight of the strategy is the involvement of the private sector that will eventually organize 70 per cent of all entertainment activities in DSF with the DSF Office taking the lead in planning, marketing, and promoting the events within the festival.

“its only natural that we keep developing our event in order to capitalise on the fast pace of Dubai’s economic and social growth” Suhail said, “our new calendar of events has something for every one regardless of age and nationality, and we look forward to provide our visitors and residents with the ultimate shopping, winning and entertainment experience”

The main highlights of the DSF 2008 calendar are the shopping promotions, Mega Draws and DSF signature events.


With more than 4000 retail shops and 40 shopping malls, DSF 2008 promotions will be breathtaking for all. Offers, added value promotions, sales and discounts reaching up to 75% on international brands will surely further position Dubai as the leading shopping haven in the world.

The ever-popular attraction is back stronger and more exciting than ever. DSF 2008 daily Mega Raffle Draws will be a life changing experience as it offers lucky winners prizes that can reach up to AED 1 million per day. While Lexus is offering two brand new Lexus ES 350 and RX 350 models would be given daily to one winner, the same winner would have the chance to take home 100,000 in cash but the new twist in the scheme is that the one hundred thousand cash prize will be in a different currency every day.

“There will be 32 currencies to pick from - ranging between the Pound Sterling, US Dollar, and the Euro, to the Turkish Lira, Argentinean Pesos and the Iranian Tomman, among other international currencies. The winner might thus take home a cash prize of the equivalent of AED 400 or even AED 750,000” Suhail explained

Nissan however, will be giving away one car each day for one lucky winner, and three cars in a mega weekend draw for another “luckier” winner. So who ever missed the chance to win during weekday draws can still look forward for a bigger prize as the draw will include all the tickets of the same week.

One kilo of gold will also be offered by the Dubai Gold and Jewllery group on a daily basis, and with the shooting prices of gold these days, this prize is a sure attraction this year.

Opening Ceremony : DSF 2008 opening ceremony on the 24th of Jan will be a world-class event by itself, featuring a multitude of artists from all over the world against themed backgrounds and technologically advanced sets in place. An exquisite celebration of light and sound, combined with extremely talented international performers and a massive production that will highlight the elements of the DSF as a “Fifth Season” and provide for a spectacular beginning to an event as grand as DSF.

Dubai Fashion: Featuring the biggest names in the global fashion industry, the prestigious event will take place between 10-12 February 2008 at the Madinat Jumeirah. Since its inception in 2004, Dubai fashion has succeeded in positioning Dubai as a regional fashion hub and the ideal platform for the international fashion to reach out for the Middle Each fashion market.

Food Festival: This event, one among the favourites during DSF, can be summed up in three words – enormous mouth-watering feast. Happening this time between 25th of Jan to 2nd Feb, the event will feature cuisines from every corner of the globe, visitors get a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunity to taste hundreds of flavours in a span of a few days. Food festival also brings together the finest hotels and restaurants in Dubai in one venue.

Guinness Book of World Records: As Dubai’s brand ambassador, DSF has contributed through numerous world records, and this year will be even more exciting as DSF 2008 will witness the launch of a new record breaking event under the name “Dubai Records”. The launch of this event will take place on 16th of Feb, while the first official edition will be held during DSF 2009. Dubai Records will mainly highlight various attempts to break local records only. However, several exciting Guinness world records are lined up for DSF 2008 and will take place between 21-23 Feb at the Creek Park.

Dubai Fringe Festival: A huge hit from last edition, the Fringe Festival was launched in DSF 2006-2007 and was welcomed by all DSF visitors as it provided quality entertainment and a colourful event for all. This year, DSF has attracted the best of the best performers for Dubai Fringe Festival. This widely popular event will take place between 24 Jan to 8th of Feb

Creations “Creations – The Young Fashion Designer’s Dream” initiated from DSF 2004. It provides a platform for upcoming fashion designers from different nationalities, age groups and different experiences aiming to establish themselves in the region with DSF providing all the logistical support including venue, setup, choreography and models. DSF 2008 Creations will take place in Burjuman between 14-22 Feb and will be open for all.

House of Talents this innovative annual event has provided a platform to gifted women to showcase their talents and skills before discerning audiences for the past eight years. Launched in 1999, House of talents gave participants a chance to do business in the real world. Coming from various nationalities the participants present a mix of talents and skills which are exhibited in different categories. DSF 2008 House of Talents will take place in the Global Village as a new venue, and will be from 28 Jan to 1 march

Carpet Oasis: One of DSF annual main attractions, the Carpet oasis provide a spectacular gathering of the ancient, the innovative and the classic in the carpet world. Hosts more than 150,000 pieces every year, this event attracts visitors and merchants from around the world and witness sales records every year. This event will run all through DSF 2008, 24th Jan to 24th Feb at the West Hall of the Airport exhibition centre.

Festival park: DSF 2008 is presenting a new entertainment concept under the name of Festival Park. A wide range of events and festivities will take place in Al Khor park all through the DSF period. The bouquet of events will include heratige events, Mini animal farm, Park Market, air show, digital Festival and a family fun fair.

Al Seef and Al Muraqabat streets: DSF is planing to a whole set of activities that will complement the shopping experience with the street kiosks located at Al Seef street and Al Muraqabat street. While Al Seef street will host the extremely popular Night Souq among many other attractions, the DSF returns to Al Muraqabat street this year to spread the festive season in all parts of Dubai. Al Muraqabat Street will host an international circus and a huge Fun Fair in addition to various shows and live performances.

Weekend Packages another new concept to be presented during DSF 2008 is the week end fun and entertainment packages. This new addition will happen on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays every week during DSF 2008 where is a special mega event along with the daily events will take place. The week end of 7-9 Feb will witness the great “Dance of Fire and Light show”, while the weekend on 14-16 Feb will take visitors to the Global village where the “Journey Show” will take place. Weekend packages will also offer the “Flying Art Show” in Al Khor Park on 21-23 Feb. Fire works will be extra bright during the week end period and will light the skies with amazing colours.

Musical concerts DSF 2008 will host a feast of musical events and concerts that will make all music lovers ecstatic. With the main feature being the international concert of the music mogul Santana, which will take place on the 15th of Feb at the Festival City. SkyWards Dubai International Festival will also be a huge attraction during DSF 2008 and will take place between 21-24 Feb at Dubai Media City. Among the major concerts happening is the A. R. Rahman concert happening on Valentine’s Day 14th of Feb at the Zabeel park. Also, Zakir Hussain’s Nirvana Concert stands out as a great event that will take place on 1st of Feb at the Dubai tennis Stadium.

Other events will include the Heritage Events that will take place at the Heritage Village and the Diving Village, and will offer a great glimpse of the UAE traditions and historical background for all visitors. And surely enough, DSF 2008 will provide sports lovers with a multitude of Sports events including a Boxing championship, a Football Festival, the Terry Fox Run, and the new Baba Ramdev Yoge event.

DSF 2008 will also embrace several international exhibitions such as the Arab Health Exhibition and Congress happening between 28-31 Jan, the Arab Lab exhibition 13-13 Feb and the Sign and Graphic Imaging exhibition 17-19 Feb all taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre

DSF Closing ceremony another great event to conclude 32 days of festivities in style. The Closing ceremony will take place at Al Khor Park on 24th of Feb and will witness the distribution of the various DSF 2008 Awards.
